I finally saw some deer! A doe and two fawns came in behind me, but there was no shot at the doe available. About 40 minutes left, and the wind is really blowing now. Not looking good for any more action.

Am I going to see a deer this season? At least a flock of turkey came through to keep me interested. Very overcast now with a front moving in. Maybe the deer will start moving a little.

I don’t want to rush the season along, but there are way too many leaves on the trees. Very few have actually changed color, and this and next week are supposed to be peak color times. At this rate we may have a lot of leaves left into November.

Still no deer, but who’s counting?

I am actually sore from opening day! My body is telling me to pace myself this season. We’ll see how that tuns out.

I only had a short window of opportunity to hunt this evening, so I simply grabbed my climber and headed for the closest spot I knew of. Wind is perfect for my set-up. Tonight’s goal: see my first deer of the young season.

The wind has really calmed down, so hopefully I’ll start seeing some action. About two hours of light left.

This post is the first of a new feature on my blog called Tree Talk. It’s very simple. I will submit new posts directly from my stand as things happen or if something interesting comes to mind. Most posts will be quite brief.

Switched locations for the afternoon since the wind isn’t right for my morning location. Lots of wind, and lots of green will make for a very challenging hunt. Just trying to fill a doe tag tonight. Unfortunately this is more like picnic weather than hunting weather.
